LA Wood Car Show

This past weekend I got up early and headed down to San Pedro to check out LA Wood's 25th Annual Woodies on the Waterfront car show. I met up with a fellow photographer and had a great time walking around all the old and classic cars from the 50's and 60's. This show is held every year by the South Bay Woodies and was a blast. Complete with the hot sun and a surf/rockabilly band playing in the background I had a quintessential Coastal Southern California morning out taking pictures of some beautiful and classic cars.

Photographically I had a great time out there with my Canon and my Leica, getting there early was a good thing as the crowds had yet to gather, giving me plenty of room to move around and less people in my shots. There was some really beautiful vehicles on display, complete with surf boards, hot rod paint and some very friendly owners more than happy to talk about their prized possessions.

I took many many shots that morning and came away with a few keepers, all in all it was about even with the Leica and the Canon, getting an almost equal amount of satisfying shots between the two. As for Image quality, I would say the Leica beats the Canon with this subject matter as the M9 gives the images a more film-like quality, which looks great for classic cars, the Canon has a more clinical-precise look, which suited some shots more than others, but the 17mm wide angle on the Canon allowed me more freedom creatively, all in all it was a lot of fun shooting cars, especially more interesting classic cars which have a lot more character than current vehicles, something I will be more than happy to go shoot again.
